Getting rid of a piano nobody plays

Old pianos are surprisingly hard to give away. Many need expensive restoration, and moving one takes more than two strong friends: uprights commonly weigh several hundred pounds, and grands weigh more, with most of that weight in a cast-iron plate.

Our crews plan the route first: doorways, turns, stairs and what's underfoot. We use piano dollies, straps and padding to protect your floors and walls. Pianos that are still playable can sometimes find a new home; those that can't are taken apart so the wood, metal and iron plate can be recycled.

The same crews handle other heavy, awkward pieces: pool tables (slate tops and all), treadmills, ellipticals, weight benches and home gyms.

  • Upright, spinet and grand pianos
  • Stairs and tight turns planned before we start
  • Floors and walls protected
  • Pool tables, treadmills and home gyms
  • Wood, metal and iron recycled

Piano removal cost

Piano removal depends on the type of piano, the stairs and the route out, so we quote it from a few photos rather than a list price. Send a photo of the piano and of the path to the door, and you'll get a firm number before we schedule.

How piano removal works

  1. Call or send photos

Tell us what needs to go. Get a price over the phone, or upload a few photos for a firm quote.

  2. Pick a 2-hour window

Choose a time that works for you. We call 30 minutes before we arrive.

  3. We haul it all

We confirm the price, do all the lifting and loading, and sweep up before we leave.

Where it goes

Playable pianos can sometimes be passed on. Others are dismantled so the wood, steel strings and cast-iron plate can be recycled.

1

Donate

Furniture, appliances and household goods in good shape go to local charities and reuse stores.

2

Recycle

Metal, cardboard, electronics and appliances go to recycling facilities that handle them properly.

3

Dispose legally

Only what can't be reused or recycled goes to licensed disposal sites. Never dumped on a curb or lot.

Before we arrive

  1. Photograph the route. Show us the piano, the doorways and any stairs on the way out.
  2. Measure the doorways. Grands may need legs and lid removed. Measurements help us plan.
  3. Check for a buyer first. If the piano is playable, a local school or church may want it.

Couldn’t be happier with this crew. They got back to me immediately with a reasonable quote and were in my Brooklyn warehouse space within half a business day. They demoed big metal and wood shelving units that were drilled into the floor, walls, and ceilings. They broke it all down and hauled it aw…

I called Junk All Mighty in Staten Island for a last-minute garage cleanout, and they showed up the same day. The crew was professional, friendly, and had everything loaded in under an hour. They made the whole process stress-free.
